New Forest Cycle Routes

All our New Forest cycle routes are easy to access from our New Forest Cycle Hire centre in Burley. The majority of our routes are on gravel tracks or quiet leafy tarmac lanes linking these tracks. Our cycle route maps and guides can be purchased individually or in a great value pack of 7.

 The Old Railway

A famous and constantly popular route of 5 or 13 miles on the disused gravel railway track thats runs to Brockenhurst. Two superb tea rooms en route, namely The Station House at Holmsley and the Forest Tea House.

 The Woodland Trail

A perfect taste of the New Forest for familiy and leisure cyclists and 8.5 miles almost completely off road on gravel tracks. No refreshment stops on this ride, but the peace, quiet and tranquility of this route more than makes up for it.

 The Hill Fort

An interesting 9 mile ride on quiet leafy lanes and a section of the gravel Old Railway track, passing stunning Mill Lawn with it's forest streams. On the way you'll be able to enjoy one of the finest viewpoints in the New Forest, looking way over Bournemouth to the Purbeck hills in Dorset. You can call in to the ever popular White Buck Inn for a drink, snack or meal.

 The Deer Sanctuary

Our flagship route and a favourite of families and keen cyclists alike. 12 to 18 miles predominantly on gravel tracks and giving you the best chance to see the New Forest wildlife in their natural setting. On a good day you can encounter deer, donkeys, cows, horses, many varieties of birds and even reptiles, if you visit the New Forest Reptile Centre.

This wonderful route takes you right in to the forest inclosures and up to Bolderwood, where you can see the deer fed at the Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary. Bolderwood carpark houses a seasonal ice cream and refreshments hut and toilets.

From Bolderwood you have access to two excellent forest Inns, the Trusty Servant at Minstead and the New Forest Inn at Emery Down.

 The Linwood Loop

This is an extension of the Deer Sanctuary route and gives you a total distance of 20 miles of cycling and enabling you to visit the lovely north west edge of our National Park. Two more great pubs on this part of the route, The High Corner Inn and the Red Shoot Inn.

 Villages, Views and Vales

....no less than 7 forest pubs and food venues, on quiet leafy lanes. This 20 mile round trip takes in The Queens Head and Burley Inn in Burley, The Carpenters Arms, The Three Tuns and The Crown Inn in Bransgore, The Lamb Inn at Winkton and our newest addition, the stunning Riverside Sopley Mill on the banks of the river Avon and surely one of the most beautiful locations in the area. Hopefully, you'll be able to find your way back after that lot!

 The Owl and Reptile ride

An 11 mile ride to one of our most interesting local attractions, Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile centre. Including a gravel track section which features a superb viewpoint on Castle Hill, this route predominantly follows quiet scenic tarmac lanes crossing the forest moorland towards Ringwood.
